Edit on a Dime: The Week Ahead

The Week Ahead

Welcome, dear readers, to week two of Edit on a Dime, the community for inexpensive, and, dare I say it, free in many cases, editing software.

Magisto - the YouTube plugin designed to add some semblance of order and structure to your videos

This week I'll be doing a series of app reviews and tutorials, (though often these editing programs, especially the ones for mobile devices and YouTube are so simple that a tutorial is hardly necessary, shall we call them 'viewtutorials' instead?). Here's what I've got planned for the week:

  • Tuesday:  A 'viewtutorial' of Magisto, a piece of software that lives within YouTube designed to make all that video folks shoot of cats falling off toilets or newborns gurgling, in a manner I'm sure many find adorable, palatable to the rest of us. We're going to see more of these types of 'instant edit' apps emerge as smartphone penetration increases and people find they've got a ridiculous amount of video they want to show off to friends and family.
  • Wednesday: Getting away from video editing for a day I'll be reviewing Snapseed, Apple's iPad App of the Year for 2011, so that we can see what all the fuss is about. Can a $4.99 app replace your need to purchase Photoshop or even Lightroom?
  • Thursday:  Last week I mentioned V.I.K.T.OR. the iPhone Editing Robot, (why anthropomorphize software? I feel like we're back in the days of Microsoft Bob), so this week I'll do a proper 'viewtutorial', demonstrating how V.I.K.T.OR. handles the same video footage that I'll use with Magisto on Tuesday.
  • Friday: I'll wrap up where we've been this week and perhaps find some more interesting editing news for us to mull over as we speed into the world of the future, (and possible end-times), that will be known as 2012.

As always you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook and we've got a Forum here as well.  I'd love to know what you think of Edit on a Dime so far and what you'd like to see in the coming weeks!

Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.
